A taxonomy of Valentine’s Day Candy

1–2 minutes

It’s chocolate day. What flavor did you get this year? I got the Khalili Jelly.

The Cal-zy Crush

The difficult-to-define-but-definitely-there-and-I’m-secretly-happy-though-I’d-never-admit-it-to-you flavor.

The GiftTrap Gumdrop

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present. But darn, double darn the presents!!

Randall Munroe, XKCD

The Iffy Taffy

When your heart is in the right place, as is your head, but the resulting brains-in-a-heart-shaped-box doesn’t quite cut it.

The Khalili Jelly

The Khalili Jelly’s inspired by Khalil Gibran, who has great love advice. His precise, but comprehensive suggestion: Let there be spaces in your togetherness. Khalil’s words are way more powerful than mine, but if you must have a TLDR summary:

  • Be together with those you love, but also be just the right amount of apart.
  • Grow individually, and grow together, without blocking each other.
  • Give. Take. Inspire.

Of course, all great poetic advice is distillable into cat moments. The cats have it all figured out, people. Take heed.

Mark Parisi, Off the Mark

I got the Khalili Jelly for sure.

Here’s what my non-cat version looks like: After a day of work, my valentines and I reheat something from the fridge for dinner, discuss the groceries, whine about the weather, goof around for a bit with Snapchat filters, fill out yet another form as part of some godforsaken administrative nightmare, … and yet somehow, it’s a perfect night.
